Pension & Healthcare Liabilities

Massachusetts faces enormous unfunded liabilities:

• › $14.488 billion for public employee pensions
• › $13.3 billion for public employee healthcare

These liabilities present a fiscal threat to the Commonwealth. We believe it is irresponsible to avoid addressing them, only to push them off onto future generations of taxpayers, who will be forced to choose between meeting the government's promises to public employees, severely curtailed public services or enormous tax increases. We are already seeing property tax overrides on ballots across the state. The time is now to address the state's looming fiscal crisis.
