What would you do to ensure that Boston's economy is growing and that jobs are being created and maintained?

Response from Mayor Menino:

Thanks to a talented workforce and a resilient business community, Boston is in a strong position to be among the first cities to emerge from the global economic downturn. Our unemployment rate is lower than the nation’s, over $1 billion of private construction is underway, and the city remains a hub for innovation. We will strengthen Boston’s economy further by:

Keeping Boston Building

Development in Boston generates construction jobs today and provides space for businesses to expand and increase employment in the future. To keep Boston building, my team has aggressively pursued federal stimulus funding and created a $40 million loan fund to jump start stalled projects.

Supporting Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

Boston’s economy is made robust by its rich network of neighborhood businesses and new entrepreneurs. The City will enhance its efforts to help these enterprises, increasing access to capital and affordable space while lowering hurdles to reaching customers and acquiring permits.

Strengthening Boston’s Workforce

Companies continue to come to Boston because of the talent of our residents. We will make sure that Bostonians have the skills needed for the jobs of the emerging economy — areas like greentech and life sciences — through tailored job training programs.
