Update on Salem Parking Garage

Steve PoftakBy Steve Poftak

As noted previously, there’s a proposal to build a parking garage with state funds in Salem. I don’t think much of it.

The Salem News reported yesterday that a portion of the garage would be used to provide parking for employees of the nearby courthouse (raising the question of where are they parking now?)

So the plan would be to use up most of the state’s Transit-Oriented Development funds (designed to promote the construction of housing and related development near mass transit) so that people can drive to work. Wonderful.
