I watched this unfold. An important point is that travel time would not have been reduced very much with the 28X, in part because of traffic congestion on Warren St. Weighing minor travel time reductions against the potential inconveniences of the project, coupled with the lack of advance community process, helped sink the project.
What the T should do is start planning for real rapid transit - a subway - in that corridor, replacing the silver line bus with an extension of the Orange Line from New England Medical Center under Washington St. and Blue Hill Ave to Mattapan -- and engage the community now in that planning. Then when when funds are one day available the real rapid transit can be built.

Agree, absolutely. My last sentence (in original post) was meant to suggest that -- I've clarified it, I hope.

But that's the problem with the MBTA's version of BRT, isn't it? As defined by the rest of the world BRT includes stations where people pay to enter the station, rather than upon boarding the bus. (Just like subway stations.)

If the MBTA incorporated that, authentic type of BRT, for the 28 then the free rides and slow entry wouldn't be a problem, right?
